Social Networking and Privacy!!

Wow i'm getting all my weeks mixed up lol. But anyway got to learn all about social networking and privacy! Sometimes you don't realise how careful you need to be. I watched a cool youtube clip about social networking and privacy, take a look! Anyway i think it is true to be careful about privacy when putting things on social network sites.

According to the Australian Government, Office of the Australian Information Commissioner: 'Here are some of the things you should think about when using social networking sites. They are not meant to scare you, just help you to be prepared.'
  • Do you want your info to be public?
  • Activities you participate with online will affect you.
  • Watch for identity theft.
  • Protect your privacy.

Week 6

Well I’m a little behind this week. I have been tied up doing an assignment for my other unit. But i have finally got back to Web101. Watched 2 lectures yesterday, the Wikis lecture and social networks lecture. I really enjoyed both, i thought there was a lot of interesting ideas about Wikipedia and how it has become a source that a lot of people use to find information. Below is just a little bit of info that i found interesting. Bye for now.

What are Wikis?

Wikis are web applications which enable multiple authors to add, remove, and edit content in a process of collaborative authoring - usually through WYSIWYG controls that resemble those of a word processor or blog.

So is the Wikipedia ever a useful source?
Yes: for popular culture information, such as entries for television shows, movies, or music.

I liked this YouTube Video: Wikis in University Teaching and Learning - Richard Buckland UNSW.

Week 5

Well 1st assignment done, 3 to go....this week was full on but really enjoyed learning all about blogging and how quickly it has become part of peoples lives. I learnt alot from Tama's lecture about blogging and the connection to journalism/media. I did some further reading on google scholar about Rebecca Blood and Clay Shirky. Also watched some good clips on youtube with Clay.
